About the G.H. Goins
Garrett H. Goins
Garrett Hudson Goins, nineteen years of age, lives in the mountains of Western North Carolina, where he gathers inspiration through hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, camping, backpacking, and many other adventurous activities. His main inspiration is simply the love he experiences through the people around him and the love of his Maker. He is a creative writer who strives to entertain his readers with goofy stories but also to provoke thought. He writes children’s short stories, prose, and is currently working on his first novel.
For Garrett, the best way to improve writing is by reading a lot and by writing a lot. That’s why he does both. Much of his inspiration is drawn from the works of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R Tolkien, and Lemony Snicket, but readers may have a difficult time recognizing that; he strives to write his works as nobody else has.
In his stories for children, the fantasy world he has written of might be the strangest thing anyone ever reads. The first short story he wrote was in the spring of 2017, titled “The KPTA,” the Kangaroo Penguin Turtle Association. After many drafts and rewritings, he changed the name to "The Last Battle of the KPTL," the Kangaroo Penguin Turtle League. He's written many stories that take place in that fantasy world; all are silly and goofy, but each one is more serious than the last, as his world expands, and his characters grow. Since writing his first short story, his love for writing has grown. He hopes that as he releases these stories in the order he wrote them, his readers will see the progress he has made through the years.
More recently, he has taken to writing things that are less humorous and goofy, as he begins tapping into writing that is more aimed for young adults and adults, rather than his usual crowd: children. His first novel, which is in the works, is specifically targeting an older crowd. As he puts out more of his work that he's already written, he continues writing this novel, hoping that by the time the book is complete, he will have a small crowd ready to read his book. Until then, he bids his readers, "Hang tight!" as he continues to read, write, watch The Office, and, of course, spend time outside and in the woods.
